Jeff Backus: The Versatile Tackle/Guard

... ninth year pro Jeff Backus. Jeff Backus was selected the year that Matt Millen was hired in 2001. He was selected 18th overall in that 2001 Draft. Jeff Backus is considered a more Versatile OT since he can play both tackle and guard. Jeff has always been a team player and I'm sure he would take the move to guard to help improve the 0-16 Detroit Lions.

Backus was one of the few picks that panned out for Matt Millen in his reign as GM of the Detroit Lions, and Backus has shown his commitment by signing a six year deal in 2006. To me he was a underrated Tackle due to the fact he has spent so many years on the horrible Detroit team. The one blemish of Backus was the Fight he got into with Dewayne White in 2007 in a dirty play committed during practice.

Backus won the fight.

So consider him to be overpaid at $6.5 Million a year, but to many he is best Linemen that Detroit currently has on there roster. Backus has been a mainstay in the health department having nev...
