Last off-season, the Eagles invested in speedy reserve pass rusher Chris Clemons and used their first draft pick on defensive tackle Trevor Laws.

Second-year pro Victor Abiamiri was expected to be the starter at left defensive end.  Darren Howard was expected to be cut.  Clemons was supposed to be the designated pass rusher off the bench.  None of those exactly happened.

Early in training camp Abiamiri suffered a dislocated wrist that kept him out until mid-October.  Clemons was hospitalized for dehydration, and seemed a step behind most of the season.

Former first round pick Jerome McDougle made a strong push to make the team, recording 2.5 sacks in the preseason, albeit against backups.  In the end, an in-shape Darren Howard was awarded the final roster spot for defensive linemen.
