... so often they'll sprinkle in a Free Agent here and there but it's usually not the big named star that everyone hopes for. The draft day trade for Jerome Bettis in 1996 was probably the all-time biggest trade for the Steelers—giving up a 2nd Round pick in the 1996 draft and a 4th rounder in 1997's draft.
The Bus' history with the Steelers is well noted. Since then, it's been slim pickings for the Steelers as far as free-agent superstars goes. Jeff Hartings? James Farrior? Ryan Clark? Justin Hartwig? James Farrior is probably the biggest name since 1997. So where did all the talent come from? Where it's supposed to...the NFL Draft.
