Breaking News:Lions Acquire Julian Peterson From Seahawks

Included in the deal, the Lions sent their fifth-round pick to the Seahawks in the trade.

Peterson was recently asked by the Seahawks to take a pay cut; he rejected their offer and the trade rumours flared.

The Lions acted fast, giving up Redding, who signed a seven-year, $47.8 million contract in 2006 when he was moved to tackle by then-coach Rod Marinelli.

In acquiring Peterson, the Lions get a five-time Pro Bowler, who has speed and can get to the quarterback. Peterson has 46 career sacks.

Seattle had almost $21 million tied up in their linebackers, between Peterson, Lofa Tatupu, and Leroy Hill.

This move shores up Detroit's pitiful linebacking corps, which now contains  Peterson and Ernie Simms. Peterson should be a good influence on the young corps and should help develop them into good linebackers.
