The San Diego Chargers rejected plans by a developer to build a $1 billion stadium as a part of the redevelopment project to the land surrounding Qualcomm Stadium, stating that the project would be too big for the Mountain Valley site.

According to the Associated Press on Thursday, hours before the project was to be publicly announced, attorney Mark Fabiani sent developer Perry Dealy a letter stating that the team does not believe it has a realistic chance of happening and to stop referring to the Chargers in reference to the project.

“We did it reluctantly,” Fabiani told the Associated Press of the Charger Club’s decision to back out of the plan.

The plan, named the The River Park at Mission Valley would include a 70,000 seat stadium, 3.76 million square feet of office space in 11 buildings, a 16-story hotel, 6,000 residential spaces, 500,000 square feet of retail space, and more than 14,000 parking spaces according to the Associated Press.

The San Diego Chargers still hope to build a new stadium, with areas such as Chula Vista and downtown San Diego, east of PetCo Park—home of the San Diego Padres—under review.

The hopes to build a stadium in Chula Vista were put on hold after the uncertainty of the shutdown date of a local power plant in the area.

Dealy is disappointed with the club’s decision to back out of the project, but understands that the project has many issues that still need to be resolved.

Under Dealy’s plan the Chargers and the NFL would each contribute $200 million to the project while San Diego State would contribute $100 million. The rest would be paid for with taxes and sales on the surrounding developments.

Anquan Boldin to the Giants? Bad News for Me, Great News for NY

First he states that he wants to get traded off of the Cardinals because he felt that the club didn’t care about him as a player (something Cardinals GM Rod Graves has denied).

Then he fires agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Now, according to the New York Post, Anquan Boldin might be pushed to the New York Giants, who are in the midst of finding a veteran wide receiver to fill the very literal hole Plaxico Burress created, by new agent Tom Condon.

I think I speak for other ‘Cards fans out there when I scream profanities at the top of my lungs.

While Boldin still has a two year contract with Arizona, with $5.75 million still in his deal with the club, a deal somewhere in the $9 to $10 million range could bring the former Offensive Rookie of the Year out of the desert heat and into the Big Apple.

While no word has come out of the NY Giants camp about this breaking news story by the Post, Boldin has expressed interest of being traded in the off season already, teams including but not limited to the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens have wished to speak with the young wide receiver on his five-year plan.

While we still have Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston, and newcomers like Shane Morales to hold down the line as wide receivers, the loss of Boldin would damage the offense of the Cardinals as the preseason begins.

As a fan I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope the Cardinals club knows what they might be losing if Boldin signs with another team—nay—another powerhouse like New York or Philly. Strike a deal with the man and keep him in the desert! He thinks he deserves the pay—GIVE IT TO HIM.

I’m not saying he was the only reason we went so far last year, including the team’s first ever Superbowl appearance, but he definitely helped a bit don’t you think? Get him to stay in Arizona and the guy might help the club get just as far this year.

Or, you know, you could let him listen to his new agent who, by the way, also manages Eli Manning. Man, I’m sure he’d like to have a new reciever to throw to.

Philip Rivers: Hero to Some, Villain to Others

With a 92.9 percent quarterback rating and cumulative 10,697 passing yards in his career, what is there to hate about Philip Rivers?

Well, a lot apparently.

By just Googling “why people hate Philip Rivers” I received over 38,500 results in only .30 second (speedy are’nt we Google) about how much other people dislike Rivers.

One angry fan replied on a Yahoo forum, “How can you like someone who talks a bunch of crap and is that cocky but had done NOTHING in his career so far!! NOTHING!!”

On GetSportsInfo.com, writer Mark Fightmaster stated Mr. Rivers is just Ryan Leaf with a better supporting cast, that, “Maybe it is just because I think he is a smug prick, but I don’t like Philip Rivers at all and feel that he is mere seconds away from being Ryan Leaf.  He is lucky enough to have a good supporting cast, and he should thank his lucky stars for them.”

And of course on another forum:

“He’s such a whiny c*nt.”

So why all the hate for Rivers?

It is because he lambaste fans and players alike? Is it because he’s cocky about his position in the NFL-pulling an 8-8 team to the playoffs to upset the Indianapolis Colts twice?

Or is it just fan anger at a guy who is doing something none of us will ever be able to do: Mock Payton Manning/Jay Cutler/JaMarcus Russell from across the field, call their fans idiots and steal their women?

OK, I’m not sure about the last one but I wouldn’t put it past my favorite QB in the AFC.

Why is he my favorite quarterback in the AFC right now? Mostly because I hate Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger, but also because he’s the kind of guy that will speak his mind on and off the field.

He wants people to know how he feels about his opponents, the style of play they deliver and most importantly what he plans to do to them this coming Sunday.

While Rivers might open his mouth, some would say that he feels it is a key part of the game—taunting and heckling the other team in hopes of taking them off their guard and bring the SuperChargers to another victory—and he does so with gusto.

Obviously many people take offense to what Rivers says when he opens his mouth, but the guy has the stats and the team to back him up.

While he might not be the most spectacular of quarterbacks to ever don a Chargers uniform (Doug Flutie, Johnny Unitas, Drew Brees, not Ryan Leaf) he definitely grown leaps and bounds since his first appearances in the NFL in 2006.

Yes, he should keep his mouth closed from time to time but sometimes its alright to run your mouth—especially when you got guys like Darren Sproles, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Shawne Merriman to back you up.

He’s a young quarterback and he’s a bit obnoxious but hey—that’s what being the leader is all about.

“I love it here. But I want to play. I would rather play and be a starter somewhere else if I can’t do it here,” said Rivers.

Okay, maybe he should shut up now.
