My Two Cents: The St. Louis Rams Are Staying In St. Louis

As reported by John Clayton, the St. Louis Rams have a For Sale sign on the front of their organization. The likelihood is that this could be the last season that the Rams will be in St. Louis. The likelihood is that I could be cursing the Sports Gods at the end of the 2010 season if that happens.
It’s safe to say that Georgia Frontierre is rolling over in her grave right now.
From a fans standpoint, I hope that the Rams stay right where they are…but I also hope that they win a Super Bowl before they go. With Canada vying for a football team, it’s clear that there are two teams that could be on the move pretty soon. But the Bills could wind up in Canada, while the Rams will stay in the states. With the next potential owner coming from outside of Missouri, I hope that he realizes how important it is to the city of St. Louis that the team stays right where they are.
In any event, it’s hard for me to fathom the thought of having to not hear James Brown say the St. Louis Rams. Where exactly would they go? Montana? Texas? Back to California?
We all know that they want pro football back in Los Angeles. Have the Rams just opened the door for the City of Angels to take back what they feel the Gateway City took from them? The Rams aren’t thinking about whether they’re playing another season or their last in St. Louis. They’re thinking about the season itself.
In my opinion, the current owners and the next one should remember that while they’re thinking about money, they should also think about the fans who have embraced the Rams since their bus came rolling through downtown St. Louis over a decade ago. But if the Rams are playing their final season, they intend to go out with a bang. With rumors of Michael Vick being looked at closely to fill a depleted QB depth chart, it seems that when TO isn’t doing situps in his locker that business can get done.
Either way, things will be interesting in St. Louis. The thought of losing the team is one thing, but the thought of losing the team to the President of the Republic of California would leave a sour taste in their mouths. But someone tell Ah-nold that he will just have to pay a fistfull of dollars to get the Rams back to Los Angeles.
Remember, there is a reason they left, Govnuh.
