Giants Fans Trash Porsche — Brings Back Good Memories

As a car nut I was saddened to come upon a sad tale of Giants fans trashing a Porsche after their playoff loss to the Eagles last year. In enjoying the article I thought back at some of the other memorable Eagles games that have stayed with me over the years:
1. 44-6—The end to the 2008 regular football season was a rare event that gave a team with a three percent statistical probability of making the playoffs a chance after the team choked in Week 16 to the Redskins. With the Bucs and Bears losing, the Eagles knew at the start that this game meant a win and your in, but so did the Cowboys. After a slow first quarter that ended in a 3-3 tie, the Eagles had a magical 18 or so minutes of football. In the second quarter, three drives, three scores, an interception, and a fumble recovery with five seconds left in the half. Wow, 24 unanswered points, but the best was yet to come.
The Cowboys drove down only to have Brian Dawkins strip Tony Romo of the ball and Chris Clemmons scooped up the loose ball and ran for a score. On the next Cowboys drive Marian Barber fumbled at the five, and instead of going out of bounds, it sat so Jaselio Hanson could pick it up and run it in for another score.
An unbelievable game that will always bring joy to an Eagles fan and tears to all Cowboys.
2. Most Point Ever—One of the best playoff wins for the Eagles occurred after a lot of coverage was given to a Detroit Lions player, Lomas Brown, who guaranteed a Lions win. Coming in to the Vet with Barry Sanders, the Eagles were three point underdogs at home. Led by Rodney Peete and a solid defense, the Eagles scored 58 points, an Eagles record. Thanks to six interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, the Eagles ran up 51 points by the third quarter, while Detroit only had seven. Only after the Eagles went to backups and prevents did Detroit score any points, the total of 95 points is still a playoff record.
3. 4-26—For most of the playoff game against Green Bay, the Eagles offense played poorly. Thanks to a a stout goal line stand, the Eagles were trailing only by three late in the game. At the Packers 42, the Eagles lost 16 yards on a penalty and a third down sack. Facing fourth down and 26 yards, McNabb hit Freddy Mitchell with a 28 yard strike that saved the momentum and allowed David Akers to redeem an earlier 30 yard miss to tie the game.
In overtime, Brett Favre helped the Eagles with a desperate heave that feel into Brian Dawkins’ hands, which he returned 35 yards. Another Akers field goal and the Eagles won the game, putting up 20 points on the Packers after trailing 14-0.
4. Body Bag Game—The Eagles under Buddy Ryan had a fierce defense that could dominate most teams. Facing the Redskins in a game with early playoff implications, Ryan was quoted as saying “they’ll have to be carted off in body bags.” His words were prophetic, as the Eagles D scored three touchdowns and sent nine Redskins to the bench with injuries, including the Redskins starting and backup quarterbacks, leaving rookie returner Brian Mitchell to fill in at the end. The Eagles would go on to win 28-14 and garner a home playoff game.
5. The Miracle at the Meadowlands—1978 was a turn around year for the Eagles after a decade of losing. However, dreams of the playoffs seemed lost after a sure loss to the Giants in November. The inexplicable happened however. With thirty seconds left, the Giants, after two QB kneels the Giants coordinator decided a hand-off was a better option. QB Joe Pisarcik and a past his prime Larry Csonka were clearly not on the same page, and as the credits rolled for the end of the game, the hand-off was botched, the ball bounced right into Herman Edwards’ hands and a miracle was born.
6. Two Thanksgiving Day Games—Watching football on Thanksgiving is a great tradition, but the Eagles rarely get to play. However, our last two appearances have been memorable. Last year, after his notorious benching in week 12, Donovan Mcnabb came back with a vengeance leading the Eagles to a 48-20 victory, throwing for 260 yards and four touchdowns. This win lead to a playoff run and restored McNabb as the Eagles quarterback.
Twenty years earlier, the Eagles feasted on the Cowboys, crushing them 27-0 on Thanksgiving. Known as the Bounty Bowl, rumors were spread that the Eagles placed $100 bounties on two Cowboys, including former Eagles kicker Luis Zendejas.
