Glenn Dorsey: The Turning Point of the Kansas City Chiefs

Glenn Dorsey has come across after his rookie season as a bust to Chiefs fans.

Why? Because he didn’t record 15 sacks and didn’t go to the Pro-Bowl? Let me inform you that defensive tackles are one of the slowest positions to develop as a player, especially as a rookie. Not many D-tackles become rookie of the year.

Dorsey will be moving to defensive end due to the Chiefs going to the 3-4 defense. Dorsey is too light to be the nose tackle, and I agree. Dorsey should be able to record more sacks and tackles at his new position.

But is Dorsey fast enough for his new position?

He might need a year or two to adjust to his new position. I have no clue if he will become a Pro-Bowl D-end or a complete bust.

None of us know, but we all hope to find out soon. 2009 first round pick Tyson Jackson will play opposite Dorsey on the line with Tank Tyler in the middle. This should be one of the most talented defensive lines the Chiefs have had in a long time.

The Chiefs are still one of the youngest teams in the league. The draft class of ’08 could be the stepping stone for great things for the Chiefs.

Who knows, maybe in the end we will be thanking Carl Peterson for drafting Dorsey, Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, etc…

Matt Cassel, I believe, will be the next Trent Green. Cassel has great talent, but his future will depend on the shaky offensive line of the Chiefs. The Chiefs have Brandon Albert and Brian Waters. Other than that the Chiefs cupboard is pretty bare.

I believe that next year the Chiefs should draft an offensive lineman with their first pick. O-line is the greatest need for the Chiefs at this point. After that maybe a middle linebacker or a tight end that they can get in the second or third rounds.

The draft is some nine months away so we should all be hoping this O-line of ours can hold up so our Chiefs can win some games this season!

Kansas City Chiefs: On the Rise

I realize the picture I selected for this does not have anything to do with this article. But look at that chick! Is that just a normal fashion statement for those people that claim to be Raiders fans, or do they just like dressing up in funny costumes?

Anyway, this is one of the most anticipated Chiefs seasons in Kansas City in a long time. The Chiefs have a certified genius in Scott Pioli as GM, and a new head coach, who was the Offensive Coordinator of the Super Bowl losers.

The Chiefs also have a new quarterback (Matt Cassel) that will be at least 10 times better than the Chiefs QBs of last year (Brodie Croyle, Damon Huard, and Tyler Thigpen). We now have a QB worthy of being a starter in the NFL!

The Chiefs will have a very rough NFC schedule facing the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, and the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Chiefs can win one of those four games, I think they will have one of the best records among the AFC West.

The Raiders should finish in the cellar—shocker. The Chiefs have a chance to win six to eight games, depending on injuries. Broncos will finish around .500, and the Chargers are picked to win the division.

If the Chiefs can win six to eight games, then I think this offseason has been a major success. But, if the Chiefs finish the year with a top-five draft pick in their hand, I think all of K.C. will be out for Pioli and Haley’s head. I know it sounds rough, but that’s the way it is in Kansas City.

The defense should be the strength of this team. With Glenn Dorsey coming into his second season and Tyson Jackson along with him on the line, the Chiefs will have a young, yet talented corps.

The linebacking corps will be interesting. Derrick Johnson should be a stud, but we can just hope that Zach Thomas and Mike Vrabel can produce.

The defensive backs should be a strong. A young and talented group should make opposing offenses stick with the running game.

Don’t expect the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl or anything, but you should still be optimistic.

Kansas City Chiefs and Their Crush on LSU

The draft has now concluded and the Kansas City Chiefs finish with only one first-day pick. That pick was defensive end Tyson Jackson.

Jackson is the third LSU Tiger drafted by the Chiefs in a row. The first being WR Dwayne Bowe who has been very productive as the No. 1 wide-out.

Second is DT Glenn Dorsey, who had an average rookie season, so it’s hard to tell how good he will eventually be.

Jackson quite frankly was the best fit for KC. They get a guy that will work his hardest and has the talent to get to the passer and cause havoc consistently.

Some, including I, thought drafting Jackson was a bit of a reach. But after thinking about it, who really wanted to trade with them?

Sure, QB Mark Sanchez and WR Micheal Crabtree were still on the board, but nobody wanted to trade up to spend millions on a guy who hasn’t ever suited up in a NFL uniform.

So the Chiefs didn’t really have a choice. Jackson is made to play the 3-4. He is a very big DE with some speed and the ability to disrupt the backfield. He only had 4.5 sacks last season for LSU, but he did have 10.5 tackles for losses.

Now it looks like the defensive front will consist of DE Tyson Jackson, DT Glenn Dorsey, and DE Tamba Hali. All three of those players are former first round draft picks of the Chiefs, which is another positive sign that they are building through the draft.

One guy to watch is third round pick DT Alex Magee from Purdue. Magee is a guy that can plug up the middle of the line weighing 295 pounds. If Glenn Dorsey does not live up to expectations Magee could fill in and be productive if needed.

Magee didn’t put up any great numbers for the Boilermakers, he had 28 total tackles with three sacks in 10 games played.

Another notable draft pick is OT Colin Brown. Talk about a monster! Brown is 6′8″ weighing 335 pounds. He was a force at Missouri. You must note though, he was a fifth-round pick for a reason.

He is sometimes slow coming out of his stance and some good pass rushers will be able to get around him with ease. He may have to move inside the line where he won’t have to be relied on as much with the speedy pass rushers.

There is a lot of promise now for the Chiefs. They bulked up on the defensive line with their first two picks and added a huge lineman later in the draft to go along with their other picks. So all there is left to say now is…Go Chiefs!
