Eagles…The Quest Continues For a Superbowl

I know. I know. Training camp has yet to tell us it’s stories and still my malt and hops laden cerebellum lures me towards hope.

Towards what all of us die-hard bird beak soldiers have spent so many sleepless nights over. The Superbowl. The Superbowl.

How could we have been THIS good for 10 plus years and have failed the prize? It is frustrating.

Argue with any Cowboy or Giant fan and you will feel this pain. NO rings….

Alright let’s talk Mcnabb. The only thing between him and the discussions of greatness is the lack of Championships.

So many in the NFL talk about the importance of game management and Donovan is the best ever in this category with the lowest INT to TD ratio in the history of the game. Critics knock No. 5’s accuracy but I say he throws “thinking mans” throws. He places tosses where only the receiver can benefit. This takes timing and capable hands.

Let’s face it, Mcnabb has never had the weapons afforded to Peyton Manning or Tom Brady except for 2004 which yielded career numbers for Owens and Mcnabb…not to mention a Superbowl appearance.

Things are different now. The sun is rising in Philadelphia.

The youth, speed and most importantly, the hands on this team look incredible this year. My heart yearns to burst at the thought of seeing Mcnabb with this array of weapons.

Please drop this talk of number one receivers…anyone of these targets could go for six.

Desean Jackson

Entering his second season after an amazing and I feel, an under-rated rookie campaign, Jackson looks poised to be “the guy” for Donovan. The way “Fraction Jackson” gets in and out of his cuts is silky smooth and demands the double team. Look for Jackson to improve this year with 90-100 catches.

Kevin Curtis

While spending most of the 2008 season recovering from part one of a sport’s hernia surgery, Curtis’s return to the team was felt immediately even at 80 percent or so. Curtis is an exceptionally quick player with great hands who will go over the middle with no fear.

Always a threat to break it…look for Kevin to break out in 2009.

Jason Avant

The man in the slot is Jason Avant. Perhaps the best slot receiver in the league, Jason provides great leaping ability along with a generous target for Mcnabb. I think the timing between Donovan and Avant is finally reaching fruition and we should see No. 5 rely heavily on Jason in third down and goal-line situations.

At TE as far as pass targets go…what a tandem.

I know everyone in the Eagles organization has high hopes for Cornelius Ingram, who many scouts regarded as a possible first round pick and maybe the best hands in the draft. Brent Celek is the starter and has shown to be a capable one at that. Both players need to show they can block but the threat will be ever present in every defense’s mind.

It is as obvious as snow is white that the Eagles like to throw to the RBs and no exception, expect more of the same. I expect Westbrook to be in tip-top condition at the season’s opener and Lesean McCoy is Westy’s successor in waiting.

There are questions here but I would think this tandem looks to be one of the best in the NFL.

Bottom line here is…McNabb does what McNabb does, and there will be pro-bowls for everyone.

Superbowl? We will see. This is the NFL. That is not an easy goal.

The average fan does not realize how lucky Philly is to have had a team this successful for this many years. We will reach that mountain. I believe in Andy Reid’s vision. I also believe in luck and we will inevitably need some of that.
