Eagles Fans Should Lay Off Donovan McNabb

Donovan McNabb is the Eagles’ all-time leader in career wins, pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He is the quarterback on the Eagles’ 75th Anniversary Team. He was selected to five straight Pro-Bowls (2000-2004).

He was the 2004 NFC Offensive Player of the Year. He holds the NFL record for most consecutive completions, with 24 against the Packers in 2004. He’s also the least-intercepted quarterback per pass attempt, with 4,303 pass attempts and 90 interceptions.

He is one of only 40 quarterbacks to have a perfect quarterback rating in a game. He has led the Eagles to five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl appearance.

And most Eagles fans still hate him.

They say they would rather have Brett Favre, or Matt Cassell, or even Kevin Kolb. Let it be known that McNabb’s passer rating is 85.9, compared to Favre’s 85.4.

McNabb has faced racial adversity, including Rush Limbaugh’s comments that he was overrated and over-hyped because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed in the NFL.

McNabb has faced adversity as a player ever since he was drafted. These same Eagles fans booed him when he was picked because they wanted Ricky Williams. I bet they feel foolish now, seeing that Ricky was kicked out of the league after marijuana use and averaged less than a yard per game in the Canadian League.

McNabb has been one of the best quarterbacks of the past decade. Sometimes his throwing is erratic, but Eagles fans need to let him be.

They need to be thankful they have Donovan McNabb, because once he’s gone, and we’re stuck with Kevin Kolb, they’ll realize how good he really was.

They say you don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone, but I hope that Eagles fans can appreciate him sooner rather than later.
