Julian Peterson Trade Guarantees Matthew Stafford To Be Selected First Overall

With questions arising as to whether or not the Lions were going to look at Aaron Curry as their No. 1 overall pick in April's draft, this trade will more than likely answer that question.

Now with two solid linebackers in Ernie Sims and Julian Peterson, the Lions are going to attack one of the positions where there isn't a solid player to give them a chance at competing, quarterback. The man for the job is Matthew Stafford.

Although this isn't much of a surprise, it does allow the second pick to start focusing on who they will select.

There is small chance that the Lions might draft Baylor's Jason Smith, but it is highly unlikely that they will go into next season with the quarterback situation at hand in Detroit.

The Lions will wait until their second of two first round picks to grab an offensive lineman.
