No.10 - Jay Schroeder, Quarterback, 1984-1987
Nowadays, Jay may be a familiar face to UK viewers with his appearances on Sky Sports NFL coverage. He was also on UK television in the early days of American football coverage as a player for the Redskins and later on the Raiders, Bengals and Cardinals.

He was drafted in the third round of the 1984 draft by the Redskins out of UCLA and was expected to spend a few years being groomed as the long term replacement for Joe Theismann.

However, when Theismann had his leg broken on Monday Night Football Jay was pushed into action. He responded immediately by throwing a TD pass to Art Monk and leading the Redskins to victory that night.

The following year, Schroeder had the job to himself and broke out, becoming the first ever Redskins QB to pass for over 4000 yards in 1986 and leading the Redskins to a 12-4 record. Unfortunately, that was only good enough f...
