Donovan McNabb Will Lay Doubters to Rest in 2009

McNabb’s inability to win the big games has been very well documented. He led the Philadelphia Eagles to five straight NFC championship games and one Super Bowl appearance which resulted in a loss.
This year will be totally different for the birds with McNabb under the center.
For starters, the Eagles had a tremendous draft this year with the acquisitions of wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy, and tight end Cornelius Ingram.
McNabb will make quick use of Maclin as he gets familiar with the offense and grows into the player he can be. While Ingram will provide an extra set of hands and has the ability to play in a variety of formations.
Some may be concerned with the loss of LJ Smith, but Birds fans need not worry there is an answer, Brent Celek. Celek, while not a new addition, will be extremely beneficial to the Eagles as he is one of the most underrated tight ends in the league.
Although he didn’t play a major part of the teams offense last year I believe he will step up this year and become a very reliable tight end. With the loss of LJ Smith, Celek will see a dramatic increase in playing time and will become a frequent target for McNabb. Especially in the red-zone.
Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan also left the team after the ’08 season seemingly making McNabb’s job much tougher. However, the Eagles were quick to jump on the opportunity of acquiring Jason Peters and Stacy Andrews.
Peters and Andrews are very complete players. Both can block even the best of defensive ends, and stop the rush. With these added young tackles Donovan will be much more secure in the pocket and make more decisive throws.
As far as the Birds opponents go, the NFC East always boasts strong defenses that can get inside the quarterback’s head. McNabb will overcome these obstacles with the new weapons about to emerge during the season. With his new found targets and extra confidence McNabb should have one of the best seasons of his long career.
McNabb will also have to face the very strong defensive units of the Panthers, Bucs, Chargers and Bears. He will have some struggles but at the end of all of it I believe he will walk away with a championship.
Look for the Eagles to have a phenomenal season behind their fearless leader and make yet another strong playoff push. Remember back in 2004 when they made the Super Bowl? The difference was the offensive weapons pulling the team over the hump.
TO is long gone and the Eagles have once again stockpiled young talent on the offensive side. Look for the Eagles to make a collaborative effort on offense to pull the team to the big game.
McNabb won’t go out without at least one ring and this year is his year.
