NFL Football Players Draft Injuries Rookies Season SuperbowlPublished: December 25, 2009
When the Kansas City Chiefs hired then-Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley in February of 2009 to be their new head coach, no one really knew what to expect out of him as a head coach in the league.
Now, after 10 months on the job, we all know what Todd Haley is about.
From the second that Haley stepped foot in KC, he demanded respect from his players and became known quickly as a no-nonsense type of coach. And, for the most part, he has got that respect from his players so far thus season.
Haley was brought in to Kansas City to try to help change the losing culture into winning football along with the man who hired him, Scott Pioli.
The only problem is the Chiefs are not getting better, they are sitting at 3-11 with just two games left on the regular season schedule.
The season has been filled with everything including multiple expletive tirades by Haley on the sideline, along with QB Matt Cassel and Haley getting into it at times, as well as the Chiefs WRs dropping balls left and right.
Last week, they was a report that Haley had indeed flipped off a fan because it got to him what a particular fan was mouthing to him during a game.
Look, the bottom line with the Chiefs this season is they don’t have the horses and/or talent to be a good, competitive team in this league.
I am not trying to make all of the excuses for Haley, I do believe he is messed up some this year with his coaching.
All I am saying is it is going to get better Chiefs fans. I believe it this time. Pioli and Haley are going to find the right players that will work here, give them some time.
Look at the New England Patriots before they had the recent run of Super Bowl wins.
They were a very inconsistent team in the 1990s, winning just three playoff games during the entire decade.
Yes, that’s right, I said three playoff games.
I’m not saying that KC will win three or four Super Bowls in the near future, and have a near undefeated season, but all I am saying is give these guys chance.
Would you rather still have King Carl and his arrogance, and Herm “pass, pass, run, punt” Edwards?
Give Haley some better talent and the Chiefs will take off as a team. Just think about it, and give Mr. Haley a chance.

A few weeks ago, the Chargers released veteran wide receiver Chris Chambers after 2 and 1/2 sub-par seasons with the team. A short time later, the Chiefs signed Chambers, and he has been producing ever since.
During Chambers first game with his new team, against Jacksonville, he caught a 54-yard bomb from Cassel, and made a great 5-yard TD catch that required him to just get both feet in bound to make the play.
The next week at Oakland, Chambers made three catches for 60 yards, including a 30-yard sideline connection from QB Matt Cassel.
As if Chambers hadn’t done enough coming into yesterday’s game against Pittsburgh, he had, by far, his most impressive showing in a Chiefs uniform in this game.
With the Chiefs down 24-17 with time ticking out in the 4th quarter, Chris Chambers elevated his game to help his time in crunch-time. Chambers made an excellent catch on a 47-yard strike from Cassel, which saw two Steeler defenders close on him in a hurry.
Then, with the game on the line in overtime, Chambers dashed across the middle of the field, grabbing a short pass from Cassel, and turning it into a 61-yard gain to set up the winning field goal from Chiefs rookie kicker Ryan Succop.
The timing of the Chambers signing couldn’t have been any better for the Chiefs, since they were, and still might be, low on talent at the wide receiver position.
Also, the recent 4-game suspension of star receiver Dwayne Bowe has helped Chambers step back into the spotlight once again, and show Chiefs nation that he can help this team win football games.
Chambers recent heroics have given him 10 catches for a blistering 249 yards in just three full games with his new club. Let’s hope he can keep it up next week against his former team, the San Diego Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to build some momentum after their recent 14-6 win last week over the Washington Redskins.
This week, they will have another chance to win against a team is in a downward spiral as the San Diego Chargers will be coming to town. KC has struggled in its recent bouts against San Diego, but this Sunday could be one of the better opportunities that the 1-5 Chiefs could have against the Chargers because of their recent woes.
Lets look at why the Chargers are where they are going into Week seven.
For one, LaDainian Tomlinson only has 38 carries on the year. When I read this stat a few days ago, I couldn’t believe it. Now, I understand he has had some injury problems this year, in particular his sore ankle.
LT is the heart of this Chargers offense. When he his not producing, the Chargers are not functioning well as a team. If LT has a hard time getting it going against KC, San Diego could very well walk out of Arrowhead with a 2-4 record on Sunday afternoon.
Another glaring weakness of the Chargers this season has been their defensive secondary. They have time after time been beat by opposing receivers and it could very well happen again this week, as they will line up against a rising star in WR Dwayne Bowe of the Chiefs.
KC will have to key off the recent absence of LT and Matt Cassel will need to light up the weak Charger secondary for the Chiefs to have a chance to win this game on Sunday.
They are not going to be able to ride the right leg of rookie Kicker Ryan Succop for the entire season. Eventually, they are going to have to start scoring some touchdowns instead of getting four field goals a game, like last week.
This Chiefs season is not close to being over. They are just a few strong showings away from a .500 record. It is by no means out of the question.
A solid outing against the Chargers would do wonders for this team’s confidence. San Diego has all the talent in the world, and in a moment’s time, can light up the scoreboard with all of their offensive firepower.
It very could be that KC will have their work cut out for them on Sunday to slow down Charger receivers Antonio Gates (TE) and Vincent Jackson.
However, shutting down a team like the Chargers will not only do wonders for first year Head Coach Todd Haley, but could kick start this team for the long-run. Stay tuned.
